Had the best breakfast at Pigeon Hole so we went back twice during our stay in Hobart. The food and coffee were really good, the staff was really nice and very welcoming. Would 100% recommend.
Great coffee and food selection. Even in the morning rush these guys aren’t too long of a wait. Egg sandwich was excellent. I can see why these guys are so popular.
I don’t ever write reviews but I felt this needed one. We waited 1.5 hours for food and there was no sign of any by the end. I had to bring in the dirty dishes that were from the previous people on our table. They were still where I left them 1.5 hours later with some unfortunate new patron seated beside them. I had to get the menus and water for the table. After asking twice to order food (10 minutes apart) the waitress finally reappeared. When we began to order she interjected asking if we knew what they had in stock… and proceeded to inform us that they do not have more than half of the menu available, so we changed our orders. Coffees took 45 minutes and the place wasn’t even full. When they delivered them, she didn’t know what they were so we had to taste to decipher who’s was who’s. When I went in to see about our food (not even sure they’d started it) the only waitress was unloading dishes from the dishwasher when everyone was looking around waiting for service. The staff were friendly but it felt like no one had any experience working in hospitality as I saw used plates stacked all round the restaurant, tables actively ignored and a general lack of urgency with anything. The only reason I gave it the second star was because they were nice about it but honestly if the business can’t manage a normal morning trade then they should be honest and turn people away or hire more staff. I genuinely contemplated going into the kitchen to lend a hand or behind the machines to make coffees because it was genuinely astonishing.
Searched for ‘Pigeon Whole’ but navigation took me here, the ‘Pigeon Hole’. The mistake turns out to be a surprise. The vibe is barn like. Started with soup of the day (on that day was green pea an and something) with sour dough. It was absolutely delicious. Can tell the beans are very fresh. Coffee is great, too. Beans are from Villino. Then tried their toasted wrap with scrambled egg and bacon, hands off. I normally hate pickle but that little touch of pickle on the plate really made sense. And I heard some ‘funny’ stories abt their names with ‘hole and whole’ it was quite funny, too.
