I would re-establish the great horse nation of Ancient Mongolia if it meant I would eat here again. The terrible and mighty Khans would rise from their graves, impassioned with a fury and rage not known in millennia. They would form my wise and undying council, mounted atop their undead steeds, braying, their snorts carried by the wind to haunt the dreams of my enemies. Upon my arm, Garid, reincarnated to perform my bidding. He would deliver my demands, weighty enough to crush kingdoms. Verily, he would eat a horse a day. The blood of the Great Khan flows freely through my veins.
A very pleasant experience. Food is delicious and vegan options are top notch for a non vegan restaurant. Staff are welcoming and professional. Do not miss the vegan roasted pumpkin! The building itself is amazing, you can feel the history around. The restaurant is cozy despite not small, with a great interior design.
Came on a weekday for an early dinner around 5:30pm. The restaurant had many tables (which was still the case when we finished and left) and yet we were asked to sit outside. The maitre d - or maybe just one of the waiters, was a male staff (non-Aussie accent) that was just unpleasant. There was no welcome when we arrived, nor smiles as he spoke with us. After placing my order, he did not care to repeat the order to confirm it, and no surprise missed a few starters which only came after we pointed out that we had finished the rest of our food. Food itself was average at best. Scallop crudo was fresh, with a nice bite. But the sauce was basically concentrated orange juice and masked all the sweetness of the scallops. Roast chicken was well cooked and moist, but overly salted. Beef tenderloin was cooked to a medium well (again the server did not ask about preferred doneness) and was too dry for me to finish. The โtriple cookedโ chips were nowhere near having the shattering crunch I imagined and didnโt have a fluffy interior. The type of potato used was probably too waxy. Would I ever re-visit? No. Would I ever recommend this establishment? No.
Love the ambience here, but food and service were disappointing. Ham hock croquettes were really dry and meaty, was expecting a bit more binder or sauce. Lamb was underseasoned and the triple cooked chips were soggy. Service was also a little cold. Not sure if it was a coincidence but they sat all 4 tables of Asians in one side of the restaurant ๐ซข
Petition is not a bad spot at all, and definitely worth a visit if you're in the area. The real standout for me was their roast potatoes โ seriously good! It's a solid choice for a meal or a drink. Petition is a place that's often quite busy during lunch, but the service is generally okay, managing the crowd reasonably well. The food is definitely fresh, which is a big plus, though do be aware that the portions tend to be on the smaller side. It's a decent spot if you don't mind a bustling atmosphere and are after fresh ingredients, just don't expect massive plates.
