Looking for dinner before a show at The Vanguard, we found this absolute treasure of a restaurant. The welcome of smiles from the staff and a brief look at the menu and, seconds later, we were eagerly awaiting a special selection of Maltese/Italian food. Wow! This is a super place to eat. Enjoy Maltese food! You don't get this just anywhere! Malta is famous for pastizzi, hence the cafe's name. They're filled pastries that come in both savory and sweet. Most of the other dishes are ones you'd be familiar with in Italian restaurants. This place is reasonably priced, service was a bit chaotic but got there in the end. It felt authentically Mediterranean ๐ ๐ธ Great and creative cocktails
Found this spot through Reddit after craving spaghetti vongoleโฆ and it did not disappoint. One of the best Iโve had perfectly balanced flavours, and honestly, more clams than spaghetti. Such a cozy, unpretentious gem worth adding to your Sydney eats list!

The staff went above and beyond to ensure our visit was memorable. The bill was a pleasant surprise, fantastic value for a delicious meal. On the way out we noticed the Italian cakes and just had to buy a selection! If you are in King Street, Newtown, Pastizzi Cafe is a must visit- we LOVED it!
If youโre after authentic Italian food that wonโt break the bank, Patizzi Newtown is the place to go! I absolutely loved their Mussels Napoli โ generous portions of fresh mussels perfectly cooked in a rich Napoli sauce. The no-cream Carbonara is another great pick; itโs creamy from the egg and cheese, yet light enough that you donโt feel overly full after a few bites. They also have a tempting range of house-made pastries. My favourite was the chicken and mushroom pastry โ the flaky, buttery crust was simply divine! I also tried the beef and dark ale pastry; while it was hearty, the ale gave the beef a very strong aroma, which may not be for everyone. Overall, Patizzi is a fantastic choice for flavourful, affordable Italian food โ casual, comforting, and full of character. Highly recommend for a satisfying meal in Newtown!
This place is truly a gem for food - before or after the theatre right across from it. Good thing we didnโt give this a miss, it made up for the disappointing dinner we had earlier. We wanted something light to call it a day but as we walked past several tables (past 10pm), the food looked so appetising, Iโd be silly to walk away from it. We ordered spaghetti bolognese and carbonara (no cream) to eat in and their pastries to go for the following day. Food was cooked Al dente, nothing complicated - simply cooked, ingredients used not much - as per what the menu had written and most of all competitively priced for a generous serving. Not pretentious, rustic and delicious. The same goes for their savoury and sweet pastries. Itโs so hard to find good eateries that are reasonably priced remain open till late. Their last order on Thurs - Sunday is at 11pm for dine-ins and midnight for takeaways. Will definitely return for more.
