Enjoyed โlinnarโ (lunch/dinner) at Alegre at Darling Harbor. We started with a couple of their draft beers and chose their โExperience Share Menu.โ It began with a charred sweet corn dip served with corn chips. It had just the right amount of bite from the pickled jalapenos in the dip. This was followed with a pair of Margarita oysters served with a chili lime granita and plated with a oyster shell with a small piece of dry ice beneath small pebbles that gave off an impressive wisp of faux smoke. The oysters were delightful. Next was a Marisco tostada with pieces of octopus, prawn and mussel over a smoked trout pate. I liked the combination of flavors, but my wife found the pate added just a bit of too much fishiness. A smoked chicken taco came next with a salsa verde dip lightly covered with pickled onion, jalapeno and coriander. A surprisingly nice combination. Two Mayan spiced wild caught king prawns were served next. They were very good though the sauce somewhat overpowered the prawns. Then a sliced Cape Grim sirloin was served with mole madre and rocket greens. The sirloin was cooked perfectly (medium rare) with a nice smoked flavor. The mole gave it a very different taste versus eating it without the sauce (which was served on the side). The last dish on the Experience menu was that of crispy Brussel sprouts in a agave balsamic reduction that were quite good. Desert was delightful- a creamy lime custard. Note, if you are not a fan of cilantro, almost every dish had it as part of its sauce. All waitstaff were very attentive and friendly, enhancing the dining experience.
Equally amazing food and service at Alegre! Santos went above and beyond by bringing out a birthday cake, which was such a thoughtful touch. Elegant yet incredibly family-friendly, they made us feel so welcome. Santos was wonderful with our baby, playing with him and bringing napkins and coasters to keep him entertained. Weโll definitely be back!
I took my mum to this Mexican restaurant to try their Signature share set menu, and overall it was a decent experience. The restaurant is located on the second floor at Barangaroo and offers a lovely harbour view. The space itself is large, airy, and beautifully designed. The set menu included a generous amount of food - so much that we struggled a little to finish everything. Some dishes really stood out. The guacamole was reliably good, the tuna sashimi tostada was a highlight, the Wagyu steak was delicious, the roasted potatoes with cheese sauce were excellent, and the chocolate mousse was a very enjoyable finish. Other dishes were less impressive. The passionfruit scallops, while beautifully presented, were far too sour. The beef and chicken tacos were just okay, as were the king prawns and the seasonal vegetables. Service was a bit hit and miss. Some staff were friendly and attentive, while others seemed disengaged. There was also a mix-up where we were asked to pay the bill again even though we had already paid, which pointed to a need for better communication among the team. Overall, a nice setting with generous portions, but the food and service were somewhat inconsistent.

We had an amazing night at Alegre for our anniversary dinner. Our server Emily was so friendly and kept checking in on us through the night. Each dish we ordered was delicious and did not disappoint. We were then surprised by a dessert to celebrate our anniversary! So happy with the service and food. We will definitely be back again :)
